— Anne Wendell, 89, of West Main Street, died on Saturday, March 8,
at her home.
A private burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials in Anne’s name may be made to: Turin Fire Department.
Arrangements are with the Sundquist Funeral Home in Lowville.
Born Dec. 13, 1918, in Montreal, Canada, the daughter of Stephen and Natalie Pyz
Kunanec, she attended school in Canada.
She worked for Red Triangles Review in Canada for the RCAF Royal Canadian Air Force in a dancing revue for entertainment for the
U.S. troops. During that time, she met Harold Gilbert Wendell in Goose Bay, Labrador. On January 5, 1948, they were married in Alexandria,
Va. Mr. Wendell was enlisted in the Air Force and served during WW II, Korea, and was honorably discharged on
Oct. 27, 1964, as a major. At the time of his death on Jan. 5, 1976, he was a mathematics teacher at Lowville Academy and Central School.
Mrs. Wendell graduated from Secretarial College in Plattsburgh
and worked for a business office there. She also worked for Snow Ridge in the office helping with the accounting and bookkeeping.
She was a Red Cross Volunteer for many years.
Surviving are two daughters, Wendy and her husband John LaValley,
Queensbury, N.Y., and Lynne Wendell and her companion Scott Bush,
Turin; a sister and her husband, Mary and Bernard Trudeau, Hudson Heights, Canada; five grandchildren, Dustin LaValley; Eve Marie Shinkel and husband Steve; Joline Hawk and husband Todd; Brian LaValley and his wife Stacey; and Michael LaValley; a great-grandson, Christopher; nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, John and Paul Kunanec and two sisters, Justine and Micheline
Carson, all died before her.
Mrs. Wendell loved to travel, enjoyed her gardens and walking. She had a special love for all animals especially her cat, Maggie.
She will be greatly missed by her family, more than she would ever know.
