RODMAN, N.Y.  — 
Helen Perger Whitford, 86, formerly of Rodman, died Wednesday evening, March 7, at Carthage Area Hospital.

Helen was an avid sportswoman, and was the first woman to climb the Adirondack 46 High Peaks, solo, which she accomplished in one year.  She is 46’er #854.  

Helen’s first love was trapping, then, hunting, fishing and hiking.

Surviving are two nieces, Virginia Lambert, Croghan, and Joyce Hull, Florida; two nephews, Douglas Kenfield, Watertown, and James Kenfield, Colo.; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde, who died on May 28, 2010; her parents, James and Julia Weiser Vincey Perger; three sisters, Valeria Kenfield, Margaret Jacobs, Rose Hoppel; and a brother, John Perger.

There will be no calling hours or funeral. The body will be cremated.
