LOWVILLE,
N.Y. — Christine M. Towne, 85, formerly of
Carthage, died Thursday morning at Lewis County Residential
Healthcare Facility, where she had resided since April 2000.
Born May 27, 1922, in Harrisville, daughter of Hiram J and
Nettie Mae Brown Mealus, she attended Harrisville
schools.
She married Harold K. Towne on June 24, 1939, at the
Carthage Methodist Church. He died Aug. 3, 1962.
She was a housewife during her married years and became a
domestic after her husband’s death, working in many
Carthage area homes.
Mrs. Towne enjoyed crocheting and knitting, and spending
time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Alice and
John Wood, Carthage, and Jane and Richard Boyce, Croghan;
six grandchildren, John, Jeffery, Kenneth, Dawn, Michael and
Danielle; 18 great-grandchildren, a great- great-
grandchild; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is predeceased by four sisters Hope Smith, Rose Miller,
Charlotte Britton and Violet Towne.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at the
Adirondack Funeral Home, Croghan with the Rev. Bruce
Lyndaker, pastor of Emmaus Bible Fellowship, officiating.
Spring burial will be in the Harrisville Cemetery. Calling
hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, at the funeral
home.
Instead of flowers, the
family requests memorial donations be made to Friends of
Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, N.Y. 13367.
