John W. Rauhe

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  John W. Rauhe, 87, of Woodhaven Retirement Community, Livonia, Michigan, formerly of East State Street, Lowville, died Thursday, March 20, at his home.  

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Croghan, with ministers of the church, officiating. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville

Surviving are a son and his wife, Warren J. and Kay Rauhe, Okemos, Mich.; a daughter, Betty Jeanne Rauhe, North Providence, Rhode Island; a brother, Charles Rauhe, Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Jason and Carrie Rauhe, Kristen and Tom Siver, Kevin and Deborah Rauhe and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Stephanie, Trevor, and Joshua; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

A brother, Kenneth Rauhe, died before him.     


Born June 5, 1920, in Naumburg, a son of the late William A. and Minnie Karcher Rauhe, he graduated from Lowville Academy in 1937. 

He married Esther J. Virkler on Sept. 1, 1946, at his mother-in-law's home in Beaver Falls. Mrs. Rauhe died Sept. 16, 2007.  

Mr. Rauhe was employed as printer for Climax Manufacturing, Castorland, for over 44 years, retiring in 1982. 

He enjoyed gardening and traveling.


The funeral was held 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, with Rev. Mark Bahr officiating. Spring burial will be in Croghan Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Calling hours were held 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at the funeral home.
