LOWVILLE, N.Y. —
Donald
A. Rockwood, 69, of Trinity Avenue, died unexpectedly Monday
morning, March 19.
A
funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, at St.
Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville, with Rev. Christopher
Carrara, Pastor, and Rev. Christopher Looby, officiating.
Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown. Calling
hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 22,
where an Elks service will be held at 7 p.m., at Iseneker
Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
Born May 27, 1942, at home in Dexter, a son of the late
Allan and Helen Hanson Rockwood, he graduated from General
Brown High School in 1959, and served in the Air Force
during the Vietnam War, from 1961 until 1964.
He married Sharon L. Hamblen on Oct. 2, 1965, at Immaculate
Conception Church in Brownville.
Mr. Rockwood worked for the Goodyear Tire Company from 1967
until 1977, before moving to Lowville and purchasing his own
independent store. He owned and operated Burkart Tire and
Auto Service alone until 1990, when his son, David, joined
the business as service manager. The Rockwood’s continue
to operate the business today.
He
was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church,
Lowville. Don was a member of the Marine Corps League
Detachment #754, Lowville American Legion Post #162, and a
lifetime member of BPOE #1605, Lowville Lodge, where he
served as Exalted Ruler in 2007 – 2008.
Mr.
Rockwood was an avid hunter. He enjoyed all sports and
NASCAR.
Surviving are
his wife, Sharon; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and
Susan Rockwood, Lowville, Dave and Patti Rockwood, Lowville,
and Andy and Michelle Rockwood, Oswego; three
granddaughters, Hannah Rose, Abigail Marie, and Olivia
Alice; a brother, Louie Rockwood, California; three sisters
and a brother-in-law, June McCartin, Brownville, Joyce and
Mel Frazier, Dexter, and Janice Higgins and her companion,
Dave Lashua, Dexter.
He was predeceased by his parents.
