Viola G. Fogarty

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Funeral services for Viola G. Fogarty, 95, who died Wednesday, March 30, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Sundquist Funeral Home with Deacon Ronald J. Pominville officiating. Burial will take place in Lowville Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours scheduled.

Born on March 28, 1916, in St. Regis Falls, the daughter of the late John and Agnes LaGray Gokey, Viola graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1934. 

In April 1936, she married Maynard L. Delles at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville with Rev. George Murray officiating. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm on Route 12, near West Lowville and raised two children, Thomas J. Delles and the late Bonnie Goodheart. Maynard Delles died in August 1979. 

As a young woman, Viola began working at Springfield’s Variety Store and was also a live-in nanny for two prominent Lowville families, the Dr. Lawrence Campbell family and the William Easton family. She retired as an attendant for the Modern Coin Opt Laundromat in Lowville. 

She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a member of its Altar & Rosary Society and the Daughters of Isabella. She also served as Past Regent for the D of I and was a Girl Scout Leader. 

Viola was an avid Yankees fan and especially loved her Pomeranian, Nada. 

Viola was married to John M. Fogarty on March 5, 1983, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Bernard Christman officiating. They made their home on Elm Street in the village. John died in February 2000.

Surviving are a son and his wife, Thomas J. and Barbara Delles, Ballston Spa, and their children, Adam and Nicole Delles; Bonnie’s son, Scott Goodheart; two great grandsons, Daniel and Austin, a great granddaughter, Payton Sue; her sister, Alice Madore of Tupper Lake; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her daughter Bonnie Goodheart, Viola was predeceased by two sisters, Anita Soucy and Emma Deem, and a brother, John Gokey.
