Mabel R. Yancey

CROGHAN, N.Y.  — 
Mabel Rosella Yancey, 91, formerly of State Route 812, Croghan, died late Tuesday afternoon at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, Lowville. where she has resided since October 2009.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, at Croghan Mennonite Church with Rev. Chad Atwood, pastor, and Rev. Nathan Zehr, co-officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday< March 31, at the church.

Born April 8, 1919, in the t
own of Croghan, a daughter of Menno and Lena R. Moser Yousey, she moved with her family to the Town of New Bremen, where she attended the Town of New Bremen Rural School District No. 1.  

She worked locally, and then for several years at the former Wilson Hooper’s Store in Croghan and at Climax Manufacturing Company in Castorland.  

On Dec. 14, 1946, she married Haskell Andrew Yancey at the parsonage of what was then the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Beaver Falls, now Salem Christian Fellowship, with Rev. Paul Hunsberger officiating. Mr. Yancey died Oct. 15, 1994.  

The couple purchased their home on Route 812 in 1948, where Mrs. Yancey was a homemaker.  

She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and reading.  

Mrs. Yancey recently transferred her church membership to Croghan Mennonite Church, her home church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Haskell A., Jr. and Jane Yancey of Croghan; a daughter, Myrna Y. Tew of Keeler, CA; three grandchildren, Beth and her husband, Daniel Faulknham; Timothy Yancey; and Catherine Yancey; a brother, Benjamin Yousey; nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

In addition to her husband, parents, and step-mother, Mary Lehman Schweitzer Yousey, Mrs. Yancey was predeceased by a son, Lonnie Howard Yancey, who died shortly after birth in 1955; a grandson, Michael Yancey in 2006, her son-in-law, Richard Tew, in 2009; two brothers, Warren and Reuben Yousey; two sisters, Emma Yousey and Elva Widrick, a brother-in-law, Ezra Widrick and two sister-in-laws, Irene Yousey and Priscilla Yousey.
