Wendell H. Cean

ADAMS, N.Y.  —  Wendell H. “Wendy” Cean, 77, formerly of South Main Street, died Wednesday evening at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Trudi and Larry Bertram, at 5214 Wilder Rd., Pierrepont Manor, following a lengthy illness.  He was under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and his family.

Born Sept. 6, 1929, in Watertown, a son of Charles E. and Inez Kissel Cean, he attended school in Dexter.

He married Jennie C. Compo on April 19, 1952, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Adams, with Monsignor Walter Cleary officiating.  

He worked at the Dexter Paper Mill for several years, and for the New York State Department of Transportation, retiring in 1975 due to illness.

Surviving with his wife, Jennie; are a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Lori Cean, Pierrepont Manor; three daughters and two son-in-laws, Nancy Alford, Adams, Trudi and Larry Bertram, Pamela and Jerry Korec of Naples, Fla.;  four grandsons, five granddaughters; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandsons, and three great-granddaughters.

Three brothers, Niles, and twins, Arnold and Donald, died before him.

He enjoyed working is his workshop, working in his yard using his, pride and joy, John Deere lawn tractor.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with Rev. Linda Harris, pastor of the Ellisburg United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  There will be no calling hours.
