Dorothy L. Brown

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Dorothy L. “Dottie” Brown, 76, of W. Melbourne, Fla., and formerly of Woodlawn Avenue, died Thursday, April 3, at her home in Florida under the care of her family and Vitas Hospice. 

Born Dec. 19, 1931, in High Falls, town of Croghan, the daughter of John and Minnie Martin Kohler, she attended Fr. Leo School in Croghan and graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1950. 

She married Richard C. Brown on Oct. 2, 1954, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. 

Mrs. Brown worked for Eastman Kodak in Rochester until her marriage. She then became a homemaker. She also worked for Farney’s Soda Bar in Lowville for about 15 years, while her children were in school. 

She and her husband spent winters in W. Melbourne, Fla., after Mr. Brown’s retirement from Niagara Mohawk. They moved to their home in Florida five years ago because of Mrs. Brown’s illness. 

She enjoyed baking, cooking, and gardening. She loved spending time with her family and friends. 

Mrs. Brown was a past communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. 

Surviving are her husband, Richard; her four children, Steven L. Brown and his companion Michele LaTray, Croghan; Michael J. and SuLin Brown, Deer River; Debra S.  Dunn and her husband Mark, Copenhagen; and Randall J. Brown, Lowville; a sister, Shirley Angell, Rome; a sister-in-law, Margaret Kohler, Castorland; 10 grandchildren; and a great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. 

Two brothers, Lyle P. and Stanley J. Kohler, died before her.

A funeral Mass will be said 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Croghan with Rev. Daniel Chapin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls.
