Christopher J. Kamide

DEFERIET, N.Y.    Christopher J. Kamide, 48, of Jackson II Road, died Tuesday, April 16, in the VA Medical Center, Syracuse.

Born Nov. 19, 1964, in Carthage, the son of the late Faye T. and Leona C. Shatraw Kamide, he attended Augustinian Academy and graduated from Carthage Central in 1982. He attended Jefferson Community College, SUNY ESF and Utica College. He received his bachelor’s degree in Paper Science Engineering and his Masters in Education. 

He married the former Sharon M. Snyder on Jan. 17, 1987, at St. James Church in Carthage.

Chris enlisted in the Army National Guard and later graduated from Officer Candidate School. He joined the Army Reserves and was activated during Operation Iraqi Freedom serving in Kuwait in 2004-2005. He later served two tours at the Pentagon and two tours at Fort Bragg, N.C., retiring in August of 2001. 

He was a quality control manager at several paper mills in the area including, Champion Int., James River, Knowlton Bros. and Lyons Falls.

He was member and referee of the IAABO Board # 59 of Watertown for nearly 25 years, both college and high school levels, a member of St. James Church, American Legion Post # 789, Knights of Columbus Council # 291 and was the Inner Guard for BPOE Lodge # 1762 of Carthage. He was a former member of the Carthage Central School Board.

Surviving are
his wife, Sharon M., Deferiet; two daughters, Gabrielle L. Kamide, Syracuse, and Alyssa N. Kamide, Deferiet; a son, Christopher J. Kamide II, Watertown; four brothers and their spouses, David S. Kamide and fiancée, Lisa Gerber, West Carthage, Joseph N. and Jan Kamide, Herndon, Va., Charles B. and Diane Kamide, Liverpool, and John L. and Brenda Kamide, Watertown; several aunts, uncles and cousins. 

A brother, Andrew Kamide, died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. George F. Maroun, pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage. The Elks will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m.
