Lou Barker, 84, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 16,
at the home of her daughter where she was under the care of
her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born Feb. 27, 1929, in Canton, the daughter of the late John
and Antonette Sinicropi Futia, she graduated from
Augustinian Academy, Carthage.
She married Loyd C. Barker on June 6, 1948 at St. James
Church in Carthage. Together the couple operated Loyd’s
Gun Shop in West Carthage for several years, eventually
moving the business to State Street as Loyd’s Sport Center
and finally retiring in 1975. Mr. Barker, a former mill
superintendant for the Crown Zellerbach Corp. died Sept. 24,
2008. The couple lived for many years on the Line School
Road in Champion.
Barker was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the St.

Auxiliary and former president of the Ladies Civic Club of

Loyd C. Barker Jr., Adams; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren;
a sister, Frances Walters, Center Point, Texas; two brothers,
John Futia, Florence, Ala.; and Dominic Futia, Amherst; and
several nieces and nephews.
services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, at St. James
Catholic Church with Rev. George F. Maroun, pastor,
officiating. Entombment will be in Hillside Cemetery,
Champion. Calling hours will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April
21, at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
