Albert W. Gibbs

POTSDAM, N.Y.  —  Albert W. Gibbs, 80, of 353 Wright Road, died early Monday morning at his home, while under the care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence County.

Born March 29, 1927, in Ogdensburg, to Charles and Lila Curby Gibbs, he attended Gouverneur Central School.  He served in the United States Navy Armed Guard from 1944 to 1946. 

He was employed by Corning Glass, Canton.  Prior to his employment at Corning Glass, he worked in several mines and mills, including St. Joe’s, Edwards, Balmat, J&L (Benson Mines), Loomis, International Talc, and Carbola.

Mr. Gibbs married Elma Ingram on Oct. 7, 1944. She died on March 25, 1974.  He later married Janet B. Bentley on November 29, 1975.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Gibbs is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Joanne and Charles Coloney of Natural Bridge, Susan and Jim Phillips of Fine, Nancy and Paul McIntosh of Harrisville, and Charlotte and Alan Scott of Harrisville; his brother, Edward Gibbs of Texas; his sister-in-law Clara George, Florida; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Charles Gibbs.

In addition to his first wife, Mr. Gibbs is predeceased by his daughter Joyce; his brothers John Gibbs and Jerry George; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Garrison Cemetery, Pitcairn, with the Rev. Cindy Beth McCune, Pastor of the Harrisville United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Inc., Harrisville.
