BEAVER FALLS, N.Y. — Derwood H.
Widrick, 83,
of State Route 126, died Monday evening, April 23, at his home while under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
Born Aug. 31, 1928, in the town of New Bremen, the son of
Leon and Katherine Lehman Widrick, he attended Beaver River
Central School.
He married Ruth Moser on June 13, 1951, at the First
Mennonite Church of New Bremen with the Rev. Gordon Schrag
officiating.
Mr. Widrick worked in the laboratory at Latex Fiber
Industries, Beaver Falls, retiring after 42 years. He was a
member of the First Mennonite Church of New Bremen.
He enjoyed snow sledding, Honda riding, travelling, camping,
watching car races and having coffee with friends. He also
enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth, Beaver Falls; a son, Randy
Widrick, Beaver Falls; five daughters and four sons-in-law,
Linda and Keith Gnagey, Harrisonburg, Va., Susan and Jeff
Bush, Lowville, Nancy and Peter Lind, Salem, Ore., Joyce and
Steve Grau, New Bremen, and Amy Katherine, Castorland; two
brothers and their wives, Doug and Frances, Pa., Glenn and
Anna Margie, Croghan; three sisters and a brother-in-law,
Imelda Hills, Maxine Nafziger, both of Lowville and Betty
and Norman Yousey, Castorland; a sister-in-law, Betty
Widrick, Lowville; 13 grandchildren, two
great-granddaughters; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A brother, Gerald, and two brothers-in-law, Ronald Hills and
Vernon Nafziger, all died before him.
A celebration of his life will
be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at the First Mennonite
Church of New Bremen with Rev. Bruce Chartrand, pastor,
officiating. Burial in the church cemetery will be held at
10:15 a.m. prior to the service. Calling hours will be held
2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday April 25 at the church.
