Jesse G. Fort

INDIAN RIVER, N.Y.  —  Jesse G. Fort, 83, of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Indian River, N.Y., died on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Harris Methodist Hospital North West in Azle, Texas.  

There will be calling hours from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Iseneker Funeral Home, 5702 Waters Road, Lowville. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 29, at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rome.

Jesse is the son of the late Jesse G and Elizabeth Ernwine Fort.  He attended the Holland Patent Central School. He worked on his family’s farm till he joined the military. He served in World War ll and the Korean War. Jesse was discharged January 1949.  

He married Doris Marilyn Sherman April 24, 1949, in Rome, New York.

Jesse worked different jobs after the military, Revere Ware Rome, Benson Mines, St Lawrence Locks Massena, He helped build houses with his brother-in-law George Harvey and worked for Donaldson’s Garage Croghan as their mechanic for several years.  He also logged for Armond Pennard logging, Long Lake,NY as log truck driver, which he would take us kids one at a time on summer break for a trip with him way up north Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine. He also worked for Chrysler in Syracuse till his retirement 1984.  He loved his children and loved to take them fishing and deer hunting.

Jesse is survived by his children, three daughter’s and their husbands Marilyn and Lloyd Dougherty, Azle Texas, Donna and Norris Tuttle of Glenfield, New York, Nancy and David Blair of Castorland, New York. A son Jesse III and Laurie Kloster Fort, Croghan, New York.

Jesse has 13 Grandchildren Scott M. and wife, Theresa Tuttle, Lowville, NY, Michelle Tuttle and Jeffrey Hubaleck, Forestport, NY, Sean Mills Azle,Texas, Sheena and husband, Trevor Dickerson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Amanda, Angela and Jesse G. “Bud” Fort, IV of  Croghan, NY, Brian, Brandon and Bradley Blair, of Castorland, 7 Great- grandchildren Autumn and Brett Poppleton, Forestport, Natalie Dickerson of Ft. Worth,Texas, Kaylee, Austin, Nathan and Brianna Fort of Croghan.

A sister Beverly Moade Fort Holiday, Florida.  He is also survived by extended family of Lloyd Dougherty. 

He was predeceased by his parents, wife Doris, a daughter, Diane Lyn, who died in infancy, sisters, Catherine, Harriet, and Mildred Fort; a step-grandson, Howard Dougherty; and a step great-grandson, Bradley Putney.
 

He served as Commander of the American Legion in Fort Worth Texas.  He also served in the VFW Veterans of Foreign Wars also in Texas. He also made many cakes and pies to raise money. He made a wagon to use in the parades which they used for several years.  

We will miss you Dad, our memories of you will last forever.
