Richard R. Jones

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Richard R. Jones, 84, of 6419 Bush Road, died Monday afternoon at his home, where he was under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
 

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, officiating. Burial will follow in Martinsburg Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the funeral home. 

Born March 16, 1927, in the town of Steuben, a son of the late Owen W. and Jane Owens Jones, he attended Remsen, Newport and Stitville schools. He worked on the family farm and in the woods, and also worked on the Mary Blade farm in Constableville from 1952 until 1954.  

On June 26, 1954, he married Irene DeVoe at the Boonville United Methodist Church. Together with his wife, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on Route 12, West Lowville, from 1954 until 1961. Mrs. Jones died Jan. 20, 2007.  

Richard was a self-employed hay hauler from 1965 until 1995.
 

Mr. Jones was a member of the Martinsburg Fire Department since 1965, serving as First Assistant and Chief for 22 years.  

He enjoyed watching television, working with horses, chewing the fat at the local diner, and square dancing.
 

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gig W. Jones and his companion, Lolly Highers of Lowville; Roger A. and Robbin M. Jones of Lowville; two daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth A. and Daniel S. Comins IV of Lowville; Tammy L. and David M. Daymont of Lowville; a daughter-in-law, Jayne Jones of Lyons Falls; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stewart and Norma Jones of Poughkeepsie, NY; Marvin and Sandy Jones of Holland Patent; four sisters, Edith Sexton of Floyd, NY; Norma Harter, Marilyn Simons, and Ruth Walker, all of Holland Patent; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Two sons died before him, Carl O. Jones on April 1, 1985, and Thomas D. Jones on March 9, 2005; two daughters died in infancy, Bonnie Sue Jones in 1961, and Jane Marie Jones in 1964.  Two brothers, Milton and Robert Jones, and a sister, Frances Minnig, also died before him.
