Joan L. Takacs

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Joan L. Takacs, 69, of Railroad Street, died at her daughter’s home early Wednesday morning, May 11, while under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice. 

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at New Day Community Church, Lowville, with Rev. Penn Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery Annex in Beaver Falls. There will be a dinner following the interment at New Day Community Church.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 16, at Sundquist Funeral Home.

Born March 6, 1942, in Watertown, the daughter of Royal and Lucile Hirschey Schwendy, she graduated in 1959 from Beaver River Central School, and attended Potsdam State College. 

A marriage to Tamas Takacs in June 1962 ended in divorce.

During her early years, she was employed at Climax and Beaverite. After marriagd, she became a homemaker, and also worked at the Beaver Falls United Methodist Church as a secretary.

She attended Rhema Fellowship and, more recently, Dexter Faith Fellowship. 

Joan enjoyed gardening and reading, and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her mother, Lucile Schwendy, Lowville; four daughters, all of Lowville. Tammy and Merle Widrick, Jamie L. Neshkoff, Tanya and John Riley, and Christina Takacs; two brothers, Bruce R. and Donna Schwendy, Rochester, and John H. Schwendy and Marianne Green, Lowville; a sister, Sandra Asmussen, Austerlitz; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her father, Royal, died before her.
