Rita M. Muncy

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Rita M. Muncy, 80, of Number Four Road, Lowville, died early Thursday morning, May 12, at Lewis County General Hospital.  

A funeral Mass will be said noon Saturday, May 14, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, with Rev. Daniel Chapin, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Born May 9, 1931, in the town of New Bremen, a daughter of the late George and Ethel Gerow Aucter, she graduated from Father Leo Memorial School in Croghan.  

She worked at the Fenton House in Number Four prior to her marriage.  

She married Arnold F. Muncy on Nov. 24, 1949, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church Rectory, Croghan with Rev. Amadeus Burke officiating. She visited her husband while he served during the Occupation of Germany in 1953 and 1954.  

Following her marriage, Mrs. Muncy worked at Climax Manufacturing and Beaverite, before taking time away from work to raise her family. She worked at Lowville Academy as a cleaner, and retired in 1992 from Kraft Foods, after 12 years of service. 

Rita was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan.  

Mrs. Muncy was a member of the Watson Home Demonstration Club, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6912 Auxiliary.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.   

Surviving are her husband of over 61 years, Arnold; four sons and their spouses, Kevin and Wanda, Copenhagen, Keith, Watson; Karl and Maggie, Watson, Kent and Marcia, Watson; three daughters, Valerie Muncy, Watson, Vanessa, and her fiancé, Doug Rook, Lowville, and Vonnie and Joseph Brouty, Indian River; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Paul Aucter, Croghan, and Clifford and JoAnn Aucter, Ellington, Conn.; 16 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Julie Marie Brouty; four brothers, Bernard, Kenneth, Lyle, and Ronald Aucter; three sisters, Anna Suiter, Joan Davoy, and Ruth Hamblin. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
