WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Carmeline J. Carpenter, 86, formerly of 714 Cooper St.,
passed Friday, May 13, at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she had been a patient.
A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church
with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, pastor, officiating. A prayer service will be 10:30
a.m. at the funeral home prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in
North Watertown Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Hart & Bruce Funeral
Born April 15, 1925, in Watertown, daughter of Augustus and Mary Purpura Guardino, she graduated from Watertown High School.
Following school she worked at Montgomery Ward as a credit manager for several years. She and her brother owned and operated a summer grocery store in Sackets Harbor and she later worked at Cooper Street School as a teacher's assistance for 4 years.
Carmeline married Paul J. Carpenter on November 19, 1966. The couple owned and operated the Paul J. Carpenter Whole Sale Food Co., in Watertown for ten years. Mr. Carpenter passed on December 29, 1990.
Mrs. Carpenter was then a bookkeeper for Mr. Smithline for five years before retiring.
She was a member of the Italian American Club Auxiliary, Communicate of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a member of the Alter & Rosary Society.
Among her survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Leland J. and Beverly
Carpenter, Black River; a daughter and son-in-law, Laurie J. and Norman J.
Wayte, Watertown; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Marie Guardino, CA; two
sisters, Connie Guardino and Ada Guardino, both of Watertown; four grandchildren,
Megan Washburn, Christian Wayte, Nichole Carr, and Matthew Carpenter; two great
grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Joseph and Sam Guardino, and a sister, Carmeline Guardino,
all died before her.
