HENDERSON, N.Y. ó Jessie Lee Horton, 105, of NYS Route 178,
passed away Sunday morning, May 20, at her home.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Henderson United Methodist Church with Pastor Jane Eastham officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Roberts Corners.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Carpenter-Stoodley
Funeral Home, Belleville, and from 1:00 to 2:00PM Thursday at the Henderson United Methodist Church, prior to the funeral service.
Born Nov. 24, 1906, in Athen, Ontario, the daughter of Morton and Hattie Morris
Lee, she spent her childhood in Adams and graduated from Adams High School. She received a registered nurse diploma in 1929 from Crouse Irving Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse. She later received a bachelorís degree in nursing from Syracuse University.
She married Maurice P. Horton on Oct. 29, 1929, in Denver, Colo, where Mr. Horton was working. They moved to Philadelphia,
Pa., in 1930. They moved to the Henderson area in 1940. Mr. Horton died January 16, 1967.
Mrs. Horton became school nurse at Henderson Central School after moving there and she was also the town librarian.
Jessie was active and a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church, the local Order of the Eastern Star, the Henderson Fire Dept. ladies auxiliary, the Home Bureau and was a founding member of the Henderson supper club.
She enjoyed being with her family, reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Surviving are four children, Ann L. Lyons, Orient, Maine,James R. and Joan Horton,
Southport, N.C., Aletha (Tish) Gregory, Henderson, and Harold E. Horton,
Henderson Harbor; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Horton,
Henderson; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Robert A. and Maurice P., Jr., and a sister, Margaret
Sprague, all died before her.
