Paul J. Dicob

GLENFIELD, N.Y.  —  Paul J. Dicob, 88, of 4862 Sharp Road, Lowville, passed away on Thursday evening, May 26, 2011 at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.  

Born November 29, 1922, at the Dicob Homestead in New Bremen, the son of the late Benedict and Cecelia Carrier Dicob, he spent his life in Lewis County.

Paul enlisted in the Army in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. 

Paul married Mildred M. Zehr on June 12, 1947 at Croghan Mennonite Church. They purchased the Victor Virkler farm on February 6, 1948.  His wife, Mildred, passed away in 1973.  Paul married Frances Yousey Koziol in December 1985.

He went to work in the woods at an early age and became known for his love of work horses.  Paul started working at Mackinac Island in 1976 driving his tour carriage giving tours of the famous Island.   He was a member of the Lowville Mennonite Church and the North Country Draft Horse Club.

Paul is survived by his wife Frances; and a son and daughter in law Rodney and Joanne Dicob of Lowville; three grandchildren, Paulette (Mark) Schack ; Michael (Tina) Dicob; and Mark Dicob; and three great grandchildren, Emma and Brit Dicob; and Loryn Schack; Stepson Kevin (Marilyn) Koziol. Two brothers, Robert Dicob of Vero Beach , FL; and Gilbert and Rosemary Dicob of Glendale, Arizona; and a sister Patricia Hickox of Carthage; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brothers, Donald and Richard, and his sisters, Elizabeth (Midge) Kempney and Mary Lucille, who died in infancy.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Croghan Mennonite Church with Rev. Evan Zehr and Rev. Terry Zehr, officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Calling hours are from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2011 at the church.  Memorial gifts in Paul’s name may be sent to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O.
