Tracy Lewis Gerdon, 63, of 8281 County Route 125,
Chaumont, and formerly of Copenhagen, died Sunday, June
3, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.
Born Nov. 15, 1948, in Scipio, N.Y., the son of Quentin
Owasco and Pauline June Ramsey Gerdon, he attended
school in Copenhagen.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1966 and served five
tours of duty in Vietnam. At 4’ 10”, he was the shortest
Marine in the service at that time. He earned several
medals, including a Bronze Star, three Purple Hearts w/
3rd Presidential Unit Citation, Bronze Cross, Gold Star,
two Vietnam Service Medals, Combat Action Ribbon,
National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal
w/device and the RVM Cross of Gallantry w/palm, the good
conduct medal. He was honorably discharged in 1972.
He worked as a farm hand for various locations during
his civilian life.
He is survived by two children; a son, Adrian David
Gerdon, Florida; a daughter, Tina Gerdon, Maine; several
brothers and sisters, Dave Gerdon, Copenhagen; Paul
Gerdon, Chaumont, Jane and Maurice Doyle, Copenhagen;
and Diana Gerdon, California; and six grandchildren.
Two sisters; Doreen Kula and Patricia Kensley, died
before him.
He was a member of the Lowville VFW and a life member of
the Marine Corps League in Lowville.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 11
a.m. Saturday, June 9, in Evergreen Cemetery in Barnes
Corners with Rev. Linda J. Harris officiating.
