Eric J. Hutchinson

ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. —  Eric J. Hutchinson, 28, of 9 High Street, Alexandria Bay, was pronounced dead early Friday morning at River Hospital after a drowning accident on the St. Lawrence River. 

Born May 10, 1979, in Alexandria Bay, the son of Norman J. and Lucinda M. Gove Hutchinson, he graduated in 1997 from Alexandria Central School where he played high school baseball, hockey and football.  He graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 2003. 

Eric was a Refinisher for RJ Restoration and was also a substitute teacher for LaFargeville and Alexandria Bay Central Schools.  

He coached modified baseball for Alexandria Central.  He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #904 and enjoyed the St. Lawrence River. 

Surviving are his parents Norman and Lucinda, with whom he resided; a sister, Elizabeth Hutchinson, Port Washington, N.Y.; two brothers, Timothy Hutchinson, Alexandria Bay; and Paul and Melissa Hutchinson, Alexandria Bay; and nieces. 

Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Costello Funeral Home in Alexandria Bay.  A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Cyril’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Scott Fobare officiating.  Burial will be at Barnes Settlement Cemetery in Alexandria Bay. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Alexandria Bay Minor Hockey Scholarship Fund.
