Paul H. Zimmer, 81, of
County Route 3, died early Monday morning, June 11, at
Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he had been a
patient since May 28.
Born Aug. 11, 1930, in
Theresa, the son of G. Henry and Lottie A. Smith, Zimmer, he
moved with his family to Plessis when he was young. Paul
attended schools in Plessis and Redwood, graduating from
Redwood High School in 1949.
Paul married Marian Flath on
July 8, 1956, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in
Redwood.
The couple owned and operated a dairy farm on County Route
3, commonly known as the Plessis-Redwood Rd., until 1984.
Afterwards, Paul was employed for several years as a
carpenter with Oscar Schneider.
Mr. Zimmer was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church,
Redwood. He was vice president of the church council for
over ten years and presided over the property committee for
several years.
Besides being an active
member of his church, Paul enjoyed visiting with family and
friends and traveling to the family camp in Woodgate.
He was a firearm and coin enthusiast.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and
JaNae, Plessis, and Carl, Watertown; two grandsons, Patrick,
who is currently serving in the Air Force, and his wife
Nicole, Great Falls, Montana, and Peter, Plessis; and a
great-granddaughter, Collins Renee, Great Falls.
His beloved wife of 55 years passed away March 5, 2012.
A private memorial service
will be held at a later date at the family camp in Woodgate.
Arrangements are with Costello Funeral Service, Alexandria
Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s name may be
sent to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Building Fund, Lake
St., Redwood, NY 13679, in care of Norris Hanschuh.
