Patrick McNamara, 55f 10060 Grove St., died early Wednesday morning, June 13,
at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, where he had been a patient
for two days.
Born March 17, 1954, in Watertown, the son of the late
Maurice and Helen G. Backus McNamara, he graduated from Copenhagen
Central School. He also graduated from Jefferson Community College; he later earned
a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from SUNY Potsdam.
He married Cathy Hitchcock on July 14, 1990, at St. Peter’s Church in Lowville.
He was a sixth grade teacher for St. Peter’s in Lowville for 18 years. He also was GED instructor forJefferson-Lewis BOCES. He also was a basketball coach at St. Peter’s
in Lowville.
Patrick was Big “M” D.J., a guitar and music teacher for many young aspiring students. He loved
music and basketball, especially SU basketball.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Copenhagen.
Surviving are his wife Cathy, two daughters; Kayla and
Sara; a brother, Richard (Trudi) McNamara, all of
Copenhagen; an aunt, Carolyn Backus, Waddington; several nieces and nephews andgreat-nieces and nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 15,
at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 10229 Washington
St., Copenhagen. A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16,
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Route 12, Copenhagen, with
Rev. George F. Maroun, officiating. Interment immediately following in St. Mary’sCemetery.
