Nina Monnat

LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Nina Monnat, 86, formerly of Brookside Senior Living Community, died Tuesday morning, June 21, at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.  

A funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow the service in Brantingham Cemetery.  Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.                             
Born Oct. 27, 1924, in Croghan, a daughter of the late John S. and Anna Moser Widrick, she attended country school in Martinsburg, General Martin High School, and Lowville Academy.  

A marriage to Reginald Zehr ended in divorce. On July 9, 1976, she married Edward L. Monnat St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Port Leyden with Rev. Jarecki officiating. Mr. Monnat died March 1, 2011.  

Nina worked for Climax Manufacturing in Castorland for many years before returning to school.  She lived in Pennsylvania for several years, where she worked as a case worker. Mrs. Monnat returned to Lewis County, and started the Lewis County Nutrition Program, which she ran for several years, until retiring due to poor health.  

Mrs. Monnat was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. She was a member of Lewis County Memorial Post 6912 VFW Auxiliary, and a member of the Lowville American Legion Post 162 Auxiliary.  

Mrs. Monnat enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Harlingen, Texas, until moving to Brookside Senior Living Community in the spring of 2000.  

She enjoyed reading. 

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Gary and Robin Zehr, Floyd, N.Y., and Wayne and Ann Zehr, East Berlin, Pa.; two daughters and their husbands, Regina and Kurt Steiner, Croghan, and Gloria and Lowell Manzer, Lowville; a sister, Catherine Barnes, Lowville; a brother-in-law, Raymond Roes, Beaver Falls; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

She was predeceased by seven brothers, Amos, Ernest, Andrew, Ervin, Lawrence, Chris and Clayton Widrick, and three sisters, Stella and Elva Widrick who died in infancy, and Anna Mae Roes.
