The funeral mass for
Henry “Hank” J. Wood will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at
St. Vincent De Paul’s Catholic Church in Rosiere with
Father Donald Robinson Pastor of St. Anthony’s Catholic
Church in Watertown officiating and Father Pierre Aubin
Pastor of St. Vincent De Paul Church Rosiere concelebrating.
Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.
Mr. Wood died Wednesday at his home on the Sand Bay Road in
the Town of Cape Vincent. Calling hours are Friday 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in
Clayton.
A prayer service will be
held at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Father Aubin,
officiating.
He was born May 19, 1921 in Clayton, the son of Joseph H.
and Flossie Collins Wood. He graduated from St. Mary’s
Catholic School.
He married the former Barbara McWayne June 30, 1942 at St.
Vincent De Paul’s Church in Rosiere with the Reverend W.
J. Kelly officiating.
Mr. Wood and His wife Barbara purchased the Irwin Farm on
Sand Bay Road in 1945 and a partnership was formed with
their son’s. In 1984, the farm was sold to their three
sons.
Mr. Wood was elected assessor for the Town of Cape Vincent
in 1983, and he was sole assessor for 18 years, retiring in
September 2001.
Mr. Wood was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council
2148, in Rosiere for 68 years. He also enjoyed bowling and
golfing. He also was an avid New York Yankees fan.
Surviving besides his wife are three son’s and their
wives, Gary and Ellen, Joseph and Deb, and Alan and Traci
all of Clayton. Six daughters and their husbands, Bonnie and
Paul Docteur, Donna and Robert Wiley all of Cape Vincent.
Karen and Donald Bourcy of Clayton, Faye and John Carr of
Houston TX, Vicke and John Weller of Clayton, and Shari and
Robin McAllister of Maryland. Twenty-eight grandchildren, 39
great grandchildren. One brother and his wife Donald and
Leota of Cape Vincent. Two sisters Rozelma Wagner of
Virginia and Pat Brabant of Watertown. One sister-in law
Elaine Wood of Florida. Nieces and Nephews.
One brother Fred and one sister Katherine Payne died before
him.
The Knights of Columbus 2148 will meet at the Funeral Home
for an 8 p.m. service Friday Night
