DEFERIET, N.Y. —
Frederick James LaPierre, 74, of 17 Parker Ave., died Friday evening at the Carthage Area Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1936, the son of the late Frank and
Henrietta Foley LaPierre, he was a 1956 graduate of Carthage
High School where he played football, basketball and
baseball. He served in the Army from 1959 to 1961.
Mr. LaPierre married the former Gail M. Dubuc on June 25,
1966, at the United Methodist Church in Carthage.
Fred was a 42 year employee of the former St. Regis Paper
Company and Champion International in Deferiet. He was an
oiler and worked in the laboratory.
He served on the board of trustees for the Village of
Deferiet, was a member of BPOE Lodge # 1762, Carthage and
Black River American Legion and for 47 years was a member of
the Deferiet Fire Department serving as fire police chief.
He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing
softball, bowling and golf.
Surviving are his wife, Gail M., Deferiet; a daughter and
her husband, Kris and Alan Williams, Conway, Ark.; a son and
his wife, Jim and Tracy LaPierre, Conway, Ark.; a grandson,
Matthew Williams, and three granddaughters, Alivia Williams,
Kelsey and Jaylen LaPierre; a sister, Donna Gallup, Black
River; and nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, George and Ernie LaPierre and two sisters,
Betty Leaf and Shirley LaPierre, all died before him.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at
Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home with Rev. Darryl Clark
officiating. Burial with military honors will be in
Black River Cemetery. Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m.
Tuesday.
