Lucy M. Clark

BLACK RIVER, N.Y.  —  Lucy M. Clark, 92, of 30884 Burnup Road, Black River, passed Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, Watertown, where she has resided since June 1.

Born July 22, 1919, in Shropshire, England, a daughter of Charles and Emmie Williams Thomas, she attended Dorrington Schools in England. She worked as a parlor maid at Forest Hill, England but returned home when the war broke out in 1939 and worked in a hospital annex. In 1942, she went to work at Ellesmere College as an assistant cook for three years.

She married Francis B. Clark on Aug. 9, 1944, in Peppard Common, England, while he was serving with the Army. He returned to the states in 1945 and on Feb. 22, 1946, Lucy joined him. She became a homemaker. She and her husband owned and operated a farm in Rodman, and later she became a domestic worker up until she retired. Mr. Clark passed in April 1998.

She enjoyed knitting, reading, and spending time with her family.

Surviving are four daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary E. Mono, Carthage, Arlene M. Young, Black River, Christine A. and Paul Ray, Adel, Georgia, Linda L. and Bob Kelley, Tucson, Ariz.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Frank E. and Donna Clark, Black River, Les B. and Linda Clark, Sackets Harbor, and John T. Clark, Tucson, Ariz.; a half sister and her husband, Olive and Joseph Morris, England; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Wilfred and Eric Thomas, passed before her.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at the funeral home. A calling hour will also precede the service from 1 to 2 p.m.

Burial will be in the Black River Cemetery.
