LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Mae E. Hill, 94, formerly of 5590 River St., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, under the care of her family, the nursing home staff, and Lewis County Hospice.

The funeral service will be noon Friday, Aug. 24, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Nathan Zehr officiating. Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Turin Cemetery.

Born Dec. 4, 1917 in the town of Greig, a daughter of the late Egbert and Emily Ottoway Burr, she graduated from General Martin School in 1937. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the Greig Store. 

She married Laurence E. Hill on April 15, 1947, at the Martinsburg United Methodist Church. Mr. Hill died December 18, 1975. 

The couple worked and lived on the family dairy farm on the Lee Road in Turin before moving to the Glenfield – Greig Road in the 1970s. 

After her husband died, Mae worked at the meal site for the Office of the Aging at the Masonic Temple 14 ½ years. She moved to Valley View Courts in 1985.

Mrs. Hill attended Pine Grove Mennonite Church. She was a member of the Lowville Senior Citizens, the New York State Senior Citizens Club and the Valley View Council. She enjoyed making placemats and quilts, and playing bingo and cards.

Surviving are eight children and their spouses, Allen L. Hill of Glenfield; Gary W. and Sally Hill of Port Leyden, Beverly Wickman, Chicago, IL,Linda Moore Lerch, Vernon Center, Kathleen Roggie, Castorland, Sharon and Gary Shue, Port Leyden, Donna and Roger Myers, Boonville, and Darlene DeVoe and Dale Johnson, Forestport; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Hill, Oswego; a brother, Ernest Burr, Lowville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She was predeceased by a son, Donald Robert Hill, who died November 11, 1995; a grandson, Jeremiah DeVoe; a son-in-law, Jack Lerch; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Hill; brothers, Charles H. and Harry Burr.
