Norma H. Gibson

SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y.  —  Norma H. Gibson, 83, formerly of 403 Dodge Ave., passed Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown.

Burial will follow in the Lakeside Cemetery in Sackets Harbor.

Born Feb. 10, 1928, in Sackets Harbor, daughter of Richard and Hilda Parker Swain, she graduated in 1945 from Sachets Harbor High School, and later from the Watertown Business School.

She worked for the Jefferson County Department of Social Services as a secretary and the Jefferson County Regional Library.

She married William F. Gibson on Oct. 28, 1956, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Sackets Harbor. The couple resided in Sackets.

Mrs. Gibson worked for the Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome as a secretary for the general staff. Her husband also worked at the base as a fireman.

She was appointed Postmaster of the Sackets Harbor Post Office and worked there up until she retired. Her husband passed March 22, 1984.

She was a member of the Sackets Harbor American Legion Auxiliary Post 1757, former member of the Watertown Eagles Club Auxiliary and the Christ Episcopal Church in Sackets Harbor.

Among her survivors are her two daughter and their husbands, Mary E. and Robert W. Lamp, Duanesburg, N.Y., and Melissa E. and Simeon J. Weekes, Dexter; a granddaughter, Sarah M. Lamp; two brothers, Gary Swain, N.C., and Dennis Swain, Copenhagen; two sisters, Barbara M. Litz, and Margaret Farmington; several nieces and nephews.

Several brothers and sisters died before her.
