CLAYTON, N.Y.
— Frederick D. Keil, 62, of
Theresa Street, died Thursday, Aug. 30, at Strong Memorial
Hospital in Rochester.
The funeral Mass will be
said 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at St. Mary’s Church with
Ft. Arthur LaBaff officiating. Burial with military honors
provided by the Clayton American Legion will be in Barnes
Cemetery in the Ttwn of Alexandria. Calling hours will be
held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at T.R. Jetty
Funeral Home in Clayton.
Born Oct. 20 1949, in Buffalo, the son of Frederick and
Florence Zachowicz Keil, he graduated from Buffalo schools
and entered the where he served in the Vietnam War. He was
honorably discharged April 29, 1970.
After his discharge, Fred graduated from Erie Community
College. He went to work at St. Regis and Bethlehem Steel
Factories in Buffalo. He then moved to Rochester and worked
at Gleason Works. In 1988, he became a N.Y.S. corrections officer
and retired after 24 years in January 2010.
Mr. Keil was a past commander of the American Legion Colon
Couch Post 821 where he was also a member of the color
guard.
He enjoyed camping, NASCAR, golfing, fishing and baseball.
After his first marriage ended in divorce, he married
Barbara J. Umstead Nicholas on Sept. 25, 2004, in Alexandria
Bay.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Amanda
(Tim) Elder and Carrie (Scott) Mattoon, Rochester; a
step-son. Jamie Nicholas, Clayton; five grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.
A step-son, Daniel Nicholas Jr., died Aug. 17, 2005. Two
sisters, Cathy Haymen and Carol Jarworski, also died before
him.
