Wayne F. Woodard, 69, of Old State Rd, passed away Wednesday evening,
Sept. 7, at his home with his wife of 45 years at his side.
Born March 6, 1942, the son of Charles and Doris Tabolt
Woodard, he graduated in 1959 from Lowville Academy, and then served in the
Army for three years.
Upon returning to Denmark, he was employed at J.P. Lewis in Beaver Falls.
He married Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Carroll on Oct. 15, 1966, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Copenhagen, with the Monsignor Dennis Lynch officiating. They lived a short while in the
village of Copenhagen and then took over his father’s farm in 1970. Retiring from full time farming in 2005, he then became employed as a driver for Paverite Paving.
Wayne was an avid hunter, sportsman and horseman.
He was a lifelong member and director for the Northern NY Hound Club, owning and hunting dogs all his life, a director for the Northern
New York Draft Horse Club with two teams that he worked and showed, he spent 48 years as a 4-H Leader for the Central Wranglers Horse Club, and he served on the Lewis County Fair Board of Directors as the Horse Superintendent. Wayne was honored by the Lewis County Fair Board with the dedication of this year’s Fair book in his name. He was also a 30 year member of the Lowville Elks Lodge #1605.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Ann; a son and his wife, David and Shelley of
Wapwallapen, Pa.; three grandsons, Dylan, Logan and Ryan; a brother and
his wife, Charles “Sonny” and Trudy Woodard, Carthage; a
sister, Ann Hardy, Oswego; and several nieces and nephews.
Wayne was devoted husband, father and grandfather, whose pride for his family was evident to everyone that knew him. He was adored by his nieces and nephews and spent many hours and years hunting with them making memories.
A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church
with the Rev. George F. Maroun, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in
St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 6
to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Inc., 10229 Washington St., Copenhagen.
