LOWVILLE, N.Y. —
Clara E.
Davis, 96, formerly of Valley View Court, died Tuesday
evening, Sept. 13, at the Lewis County Residential Health
Care Facility where she had resided since 2006.
Her family would like to thank the Third Floor nursing staff
and her close friend, Janet Burnham, for their comfort and
care.
Born Jan. 4, 1915, in Greig, the daughter of the late Joseph
and Flora B. Olley Madison, she attended school in Greig.
She married Charles Lewis Davis on March 7, 1938, in Erie, Pa.
The couple took up residence on Climax Street in Castorland
where Clara raised their two children and worked in her
flower gardens while Mr. Davis was employed by Climax Manufacturing.
They moved to Shady Avenue in Lowville after his retirement.
Mr. Davis passed away in 1986.
Clara was
a familiar face managing the Lewis County General Hospital
snack bar where she took charge of preparing countless
sandwiches for the many visitors and employees always with a
friendly smile. She retired in 1995 after 30 years of
service.
Clara was a fabulous cook and loved hosting a holiday meal
topping it off with a delicious pie. She also very much
enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Lowville United Methodist and
a past member of the Castorland Methodist Church, and Urban
Karcher Post #850, American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her two children and their spouses, Dona and
Leo Keenan, Black River, and Wayne and Betty Davis,
Lowville; grandchildren, Tammy and Richard Blunden, Becky
and Sean Egnew and Cindy Renaud; seven great-grandchildren,
Elizabeth, Katelynn, Megan, Patrick, Jacqueline, Sean, Jr.
and Kelcie; and nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Roy “Stanley” Madison and Arthur F.
Madison, died before her.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at
Sundquist Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired
minister, officiating. Burial will be in the Black River
Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at funeral
home prior to the memorial service.
