RIVER, N.Y. — Helena M. Ames, 94, of West Remington
Street, passed Saturday, Sept. 17, at her home where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Bruce Funeral Home, Black River, with her nephew Jesse Linstruth officiating. Burial will follow in the Black River Cemetery.
Born March 14, 1917, in the town of Rutland, daughter of Oscar and Ada
Crain Ames, she graduated from the Black River High School as Valedictorian.
Helena worked several years at Newberry’s up until it closed and then worked at Howland’s Department Store in Watertown as a salesperson until she retired in 1982.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading.
Among her survivors are a sister, Madeline Linstruth, Kentucky;
fove nephews and their wives, Howard F. and Sandra C. Ames, Black River, Harry O. and Diane Ames, Carthage, Peter and Diane Linstruth, Kentucky, Jesse and Kristi Linstruth,
Chaumont, and Robert Ames, Coalbale, Pa.; and a
sister-in-law, Dottie Ames, Syracuse.
A nephew, David Linstruth and four brothers, Howard, Russell, Vernon, and Robert Ames, all died before her.
