Mary Jane Solon

HARRISVILLE, N.Y.   —  Mary Jane Solon, 77, of Princeton, Illinois, and formerly of DeGrasse, went home to be with the Lord Saturday evening in Antwerp at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Kenneth Reed, while under the care of her family and Jefferson County Hospice.

Born Jan. 11, 1934, in Ellisburg, to Owen Orsin and Iva Belle Patchin Tyler, she graduated from Harrisville High School  in 1950. 

She married Eugene Solon Sr. on July 22, 1950, at the Harrisville Baptist Church.

She was a senior examiner for the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services. She retired in 1979. In the summer of 1979, she and Eugene moved to Princeton Illinois. She was employed by Ralston Purina Company as a purchasing agent until 1986. After her retirement, she worked with her husband in the operation of Solon’s Concessions.

She was a loving mother and enjoyed making pies for her family. She enjoyed Crossword puzzles, playing bingo and cards. She also enjoyed spending time with her dog Clyde and her family. She loved traveling home to New York in the Spring for the  May flowers and in the fall for the turning of the leaves. She was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton IL.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Eugene Jr. and Diane, Fort Worth Texas, Deborah and Kenneth Reed, Antwerp, Randy and his companion, Kathleen, Vernon and Susan, St. Joseph, Michigan; four sisters and her husbands, Mina Belle and Floyd (LeRoy) Bressett, Harrisville, Frank and Alice Tyler, Betty and John Hadfield, Marjorie and Michael Crowner, all of Fullerville,, and Marletha and Douglas Jones, Malone; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Four siblings, Maria Klock, Leon Tyler, Marlene Hadfield, and Owen Tyler, died before her.

A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fine with Rev. Robert Decker officiating. Burial will follow in the Pitcairn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Adirondack Funeral Home, Harrisville.
