Duane A. Gates

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  Duane Alan Gates, 52, of 232 West Main St., died at home Monday, Sept. 19.

Born Jan. 1, 1959, in Carthage, the son of Nathan LeRoy Gates Sr. and Juanita Gill Gates, he attended Carthage schools, he was a lifelong resident of the area. 

Mr. Gates worked in construction and as a mechanic. 

He also did body work on vehicles and enjoyed stock car racing. 

Surviving are his mother and step-father, Juanita & Dennis LaVancha, Great Bend; his children, Tessie Adams and her companion, Adam Smith, West Carthage, his son and his wife, William R. & Brandi Gates, Plessis, his son and his wife, Michael & Cindia Boothe, North Carolina, his stepson Randy Bailey and his companion Toni Ventiquattro, Carthage, his stepsons and their wives, Timothy & Kellie Bailey, Sr., Carthage and Ronald & Stephanie Bailey, North Carolina and his step daughter Tracey Bailey, North Carolina. Also surviving are his siblings, Nathan Gates, Jr., Great Bend, Donna Mono, Natural Bridge, Rick Gates, Great Bend, DeEtta O’Neil, Great Bend; 30 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his son, Waylon, a grandson, Alan and his former wife, Muriel Gates. 

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 500 State St., Carthage, with Wayne Arnold, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Natural Bridge. 

Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, at the funeral home.
