WATERTOWN, N.Y. —
Rupert MacLeod, 84, of Route 11 South, Watertown, passed
away Monday, Sept. 19, at Samaritan Medical Center following
a lengthy illness.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Reed &
Benoit Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow
in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 22, at the funeral home.
Born May 26, 1927, in Norfolk, a son of Dan and Mary Rupert
MacLeod, he served with the Marines during World War II.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, Rupert
returned to Watertown where he worked for the New York
Central Railroad, and the New York Air Brake. He then went
to work for the St. Regis Paper Mill in Deferiet as a super
calendar operator, retiring from Champion International,
after 30 years of employment.
Rupert enjoyed ice fishing and hunting.
He was a Civil War history enthusiast, traveling to attend
many battle re-enactments at Gettysburg, Pa.
Surviving are his companion of 60 years, Thelma Dennee,
Watertown; a son, Thomas Berry; a daughter, Sandra MacLeod,
both of Watertown; a granddaughter, Ashley MacLeod; two
brothers, Norman, Syracuse, and John, Dominican Republic; a
sister, Jane Kilburn, Peterborough, Ont., Canada; three
nephews, Donny and John MacLeod and Ron Dennee.
