James B. Walsh

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  James B. Walsh, 81, of Paddock Street, passed away Thursday evening, Sept. 22, at his home under the care of his loving family and Hospice.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc. A prayer service will be 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the funeral home followed by the funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church with Rev. Donald Robinson officiating. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Malone.

Born August 27, 1930, in Malone, the son of Garnar and Margaret Finan Walsh, he graduated from Franklin Academy and received his bachelor's of arts degree in education from Potsdam State University.

On Nov. 18, 1952, he entered the Navy and was honorably discharged as an airman electrician 2nd class on Oct. 23, 1956.

He married Elizabeth M. Maneely at St. Joseph's Church, Malone on Dec. 17, 1955, with Msgr. Edgar Gallagher officiating. 

He taught school at Salmon River Central and had worked as a sales representative for U. S. Gypsum Co. The couple then moved to Watertown in 1959. He worked for John Sexton Co., Watertown for 30 years as a sales representative in northern NY. 

Mr. Walsh was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. 

He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 61, the Elks Lodge 496, and the Brownville/Glen Park Busy B-G's, where he was also a past president. He was president of the Advisory Board of the Jefferson County Office of the Aging and volunteered as a bus driver for Disabled American Veterans. 

He was an avid golfer, bowler, and traveler.

Besides his wife, Elizabeth, he is survived by his three children, Timothy J. Walsh and wife, Mary, Syracuse, Colleen B. Walsh, Watertown, and Thomas V. Walsh and wife, Meghan, Cortlandt Manor; four grandchildren, Bridget, Elizabeth, Ryan, and Thomas; his brother, Robert E. Walsh, Malone; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

A brother, Garnar V. Walsh, died before him.
