Richard W. Spencer

WEST LOWVILLE, N.Y.  —  Richard W. “Tony” Spencer, 72, of West Lowville, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, at his home, under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice. 

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in West Lowville Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Born Aug. 19, 1939, in Lowville, a son of the late Willard J. and Lillian Presley Spencer, he attended Montague Country School and Lowville Academy.  

He married Linda Brown on Oct. 29, 1960, at Copenhagen Methodist Church.  

He worked at Tylerville, Lowville and Copenhagen cheese factories, Ribstone Silo Company, and operated Snowdale Bar and Grill.  

Tony joined Laborers Local #322, working on several union construction jobs, until retiring from the union in 2001.  

He was known for how much wood he would cut, and how perfect he would pile the cords up.

He loved feeding and watching the birds and stray animals, and spending time with his family. The children will always remember when they would leave the house, what he would say: “See ya kid, drive slow.” 

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Linda; two daughters and their husbands, Robbin and Alexey Hlad, and Bethany and Peter Kirch, Lowville; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Carl (Marlene), Stanley (Yvonne), and George, all of Lowville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Olin, Glenfield, and Laura (Richard) Hill, Lowville; a sister-in-law, Sally Spencer, Lowville; three granddaughters, Heather Hlad, Anna Jane and Maryam Kirch; two grandsons, Joshua Hlad and Derek Kirch; two great-granddaughters, Alexyn Hunkins and Mackenzie Kirch; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

A sister, Doris; two brothers, Glenn, Sr. and Raymond; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Olin, all died before him.
