LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y.  —  James L. Stephany, 73, LaFargeville, died at his home on Tuesday morning, Sept. 27.

Born Oct. 29, 1937, in Rochester, the son of James L. Sr. and Yvonne Girrard Stephany, he graduated from LaFargeville High School.  

He married Dawn E. David in East Rochester on Jan. 2, 1956. She died Aug. 25, 2006. 

James worked as a machine operator for 25 years at Gleason Works in Rochester, and was also co-owner of Green Acres Motel & Cottages in Alexandria Bay.  

He was a member of the Clayton Lions Club. 

Surviving are his daughters, Kimberly “Kim” Brown and Michelle “Mickey” Swail, who cared for him in his later years, both of LaFargeville; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  

He was predeceased by two children: a daughter, Penny Miller, who died June 26, 2009; and a son, James L. Stephany III , who died Sept. 12, 2009. 

Calling hours will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, with the funeral service being held at 3 p.m. at Costello Funeral Home in Alexandria Bay. Burial will be in noon Friday, Sept. 30, in St. Francis Cemetery in Leroy, N.Y.

Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to St. John’s Church, LaFargeville, or to the Hillside Children’s Home, Rochester, N.Y..
