WELLESLEY ISLAND, N.Y. — Charles
“Douglas” Lindsey, 84, of County Rte 100, Fineview, died
Friday at River Hospital in Alexandria Bay where he had been
a patient for ten days.
Mr. Lindsey was part of John G. & Son Boat works on Hub
Island for many years. He then worked for New York Air Brake,
Watertown, and was an operating engineer during the building
of Interstate 81 on Wellesley Island.
Born Dec. 1, 1922, in Thousand Island Park, son of John G.
and Louella Dano Lindsey, he graduated from Clayton High
School in 1941.
He married the former Jean Houghton April 26, 1947, at
Fineview Methodist Church with the Reverend Baker
officiating.
He was a veteran of the United States Army during WW2 and
served in the South Pacific. He was a member of Wellesley
Island Fire Department for 67yrs and a member of the
American Legion Klock Smith Post 1788, LaFargeville.
A lifelong resident of Wellesley Island. he is survived by
his wife of 60 years, Jean; a son and his wife, Douglas J.
and Judith Lindsey, Stewartstown, Pa.; three daughters and
two sons-in-law, Carol and Jim Barton, Clayton, Sally and
Paul Hartman, Liverpool, and Susan Higginbatham,
Baldwinsville; a nephew, whom they raised, Jack Lindsey, of
Tallahassee, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.
A brother, John, died before him.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the T.R.
Jetty Funeral Home, Clayton. The funeral will be 11 a.m.
Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Thousand Island Park Chapel with
Reverend Jack Anderson, a life long friend and Fredericka
Webb Lay Pastor of Fineview Methodist Church officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will follow at Riverside
Cemetery.

Volunteer Ambulance Fund in care of Debbie Oliver, 42369 Route
100, Thousand Island Park, N.Y. 13692 and the Wellesley
Island Methodist Church in care of Sandra Holcomb, 47206 Oak
