Charles E. Wood

BRANTINGHAM, N.Y.  —  Charles E. Wood, 72, of 5811 Partridgeville Rd., died Wednesday evening, Sept. 28. He had been ill with cancer for some time.

Born May 21, 1939, in Carthage, the son of Frederick and Mary Robinson Wood, he graduated from Antwerp High School in 1957 and from the New York State Police Academy in 1964. 

He married Donna Doyle on May 6, 1972, at Carthage Methodist Church. He was employed by the St. Regis Paper Mill from 1975 until his retirement as a Millwright in 2001. 

He had two previous marriages that ended in divorce, the first to Donna Mae Alton and the second to Violet Turvery.

He lived in the Carthage area for 30 years and moved to Brantingham five years ago. 

He was a life member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #1762, Carthage, an exempt member of the Great Bend Fire Department, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and listening to blue grass music. He also enjoyed riding snowmobiles and four wheelers.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, at home, his mother, Mary Hall, Watertown; his children and their spouses, Edward and Julie Wheeler Wood, Copenhagen, Eric and Rhonda Wood, Watertown, Diane Lane, Copenhagen, and Frederick and Samantha Wood, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Heather Wood, Copenhagen, and Abigail Wood, South Carolina; a sister and her companion, June Pickert and Jim Youngs, Theresa; a half sister and her husband, Gloria and Ralph Knapp, Watertown; his half brother and his wife, Bruce and Babette Hall, Watertown; and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

Per Charles’ wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. His burial will be held privately by his family.
