Kurtis W. LaValley

NEW BREMEN, N.Y.  —  Kurtis W. “Stanley” LaValley, 68, of Snell Road, New Bremen, died Monday, Oct. 3, at his home under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc, Lowville. A gathering at the New Bremen Fire Department will follow the funeral service. A calling hour will be 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.


Born Jan. 21, 1943, in Chateaugay, a son of the late Francis Donald and Arlene Vaugh LaValley, he started his career working for Ken Patton Plumbing and Heating in Croghan, Burkhard Plumbing and Heating, Croghan, Lowville Oil Company, Lowville, Burkhard Plumbing and Heating, Watertown, Russell Finch Tree Trimming Service, Black River.  

He married Carol Hardy on July 9, 1968, at the Lowville United Methodist Church with Rev. Mueller, officiating. He and his wife Carol have resided in New Bremen for the past 37 years. A previous marriage ended in divorce.  

In 1982, he started his own business, LaValley Heating.  He and his son Kurt Jr. ran the family run business until the time of his death.  Mr. LaValley also supported his wife who owned and ran Pond Effects Tavern.

Mr. LaValley was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He also enjoyed having a beer and socializing with his many friends.  He was an honorable fireman with the New Bremen Fire Department for over 35 years.  

He was a fan of NASCAR Racing with a love for Dale Earnhardt Sr. and proudly wore the black #3.

Surviving are
his loving wife of 43 years, Carol; his children, Kurt W. LaValley Jr., Carthage, Brigit Bruce and companion Kevin Jones, Glenfield, Renee and John Elliott, Glenfield, Michelle and Dale Lehman, New Bremen; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, a step-great-granddaughter, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his dog “Sparky”.  

A brother, Kenneth, a sister Karen, his mother and father, and a daughter, Kimberly, all died before him.
