BROWNVILLE, N.Y. —
Shirley H. Hammond, 75, of W. Main Street, died late Monday afternoon,
Oct. 3, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident
in the town of Pamelia earlier in the day.
The
funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Reed & Benoit
Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin O'Brien, pastor of the
Immaculate Conception Church, officiating. Burial will
follow in Brownville Cemetery. Calling hours are 11 a.m. to
2 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral.
She was born Nov. 9, 1935, a daughter of James K. and Mabel
Love Fleming.
Following her high school education, Shirley married James
Hammond.
Shirley worked for many years at Chesebrough Ponds in
Watertown, later attending beauty school in Watertown. After
completing her education, she opened her own Beauty shop in
Brownville, and was still working at the time of her
passing. She had also worked at Brennon's Grocery in
Brownville for over 20 years.
Mrs. Hammond was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception
Church of Brownville.
She enjoyed the time spent with her family, especially the
lights in her life, her granddaughters, Hunter and Hailee.
Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Hammond and William
Rafferty, both of Brownville; two granddaughters that she
adored, Hunter E. and Hailee E. Rafferty; a sister, Lillian
Biggs, Watertown; a brother and his wife, Wayne and Audrey
Fleming, North Carolina; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband James in 1973. A brother
Wendell Fleming and five sisters, Evon Rafferty, Esther
Fleming, Geraldine Soluri, Joyce Gibeau and Sharon Whitmore
also predeceased her.
