Gerald J. Pate

CASTORLAND, N.Y.  —  Gerald J. Pate, 77, of Third Road, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, at his home while under the care of Lewis County Hospice and surrounded by his loving family.   

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the funeral home.   

Born May 23, 1934, in the town of Croghan, a son of the late Lawrence and Nellie Pominville Pate, he attended Father Leo Memorial School.  

He worked construction in the area, the Dadville Tree Nursery, Hoffman and Dudo cheese factory in Croghan, and cut trees for the power lines in the Belfort area before going to work for Climax Manufacturing as a crane operator in 1959, where he retired in 1996, after 37 years of service.    

He married Donna L'Huillier on Nov. 7, 1955. 

He enjoyed hunting, cutting wood, and working with cement at his camp on Lake Bonaparte. Gerald enjoyed making weather sticks, playing cards, traveling and bowling. He loved to fly.  

He also enjoyed gardening, and feeding the birds.

Gerald will be remembered for his smile, his laugh & quick wit, his one liners and sense of humor. 

Surviving are  his wife of 55 years, Donna L’Huillier Pate; six children, Wendy Bliss of Manlius, NY; Rick J. Pate of Castorland; Randy J. Pate; triplet daughters, Karen M. of Castorland, (Robert Einbeck of Number Four); Kathy M. Pate and her companion, Nancy Keegan, of Dexter, (Kay M. Pate, who died shortly after birth in 1959); James G. Pate and his companion, Lynn Gosdin, of Meansville, GA; his siblings, Viola Dutton of Croghan; Muriel Nuffer of Castorland; Evelyn Turck of Croghan; Ronald (Shirley) Pate of Carthage; Shirley (Gordon) Martin of Castorland; 13 grandchildren, Jessica (Nathan) Adams, Sarah and Bethany Pate; Shawn Buckingham, Nichole Buckingham Bacon (Jamie) , Jason Buckingham; Jenna, Jolene and Josh Pate; Jeffrey and Jared Lehman, and Zachary Einbeck; Leah Pate; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

A son, Allan F. Pate, died Nov. 30, 2002. A brother, Earl L. Pate, also died before him.
