Scott J. Luiz

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  Scott J. Luiz, 45, of Kieff Drive, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, after a 17-month battle with brain cancer.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Prayers of committal will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the funeral home. 

Born Feb. 22, 1966, in Lowell, Mass., a son of the late James Luiz and Jeanine Gaudett Luiz, he was educated in Florida schools.  

Scott was a New York State Department of Corrections officer for 18 years. He started his career at Sing Sing prison in New York City, later transferring to Mid State in Oneida, then to the Cape Vincent facility and lastly to the Watertown facility, where he retired due to his illness. 

He married Kimberly Misercola on June 4, 2010.

Mr. Luiz was a member of the Men's Auxillary of the VFW Post 1400, Watertown, 

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. 

Surviving are his wife, Kimberly; two sons, Corey, serving with the Marines, and Dillon, Adams; a granddaughter, Felicity Ann Moore; his mother, Jeanine Lampi, Pinellas Park, Fla.; three step children, Jessica Moore, Rochester, Bryan Ormiston, Pa., and Jordan Beck, Watertown; a brother, Steve Luiz; four sisters, Sandra Luiz, Sharon Luiz, Jennifer Lampi, all of Florida, and Sue Haese, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.   

He was predeceased by his father, James Luiz.

Scott was a Corrections officer with the New York State Department of Corrections for 18 years. He was stationed at the Watertown facility when he retired October of 2010 due to ill health.

Among his survivors is his wife, Kimberly Ann.
