— Alma A. Sparacino, 87,
of Shangraw Road,
passed away 8:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at home with her loving children at her side.
She was born March 9, 1924, in Battersea, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of George and Letta McIlroy Elliott. At the age of four she came to the United States with her parents. She graduated in 1942 from Brownville High School.
Upon graduation, she entered St. Lawrence School of Nursing and graduated with a degree as a registered nurse. After graduation she was employed as an operating room nurse at the House of the Good Samaritan.
She married Anthony Joseph Sparacino Jr. on May 29, 1949, at Holy Family Church with Msgr. Farrell officiating.
Alma enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting and the outdoors.
Surviving are eight children and their spouses, Abbie and Mark Brown, Watertown, Gigi and Emilio D’Argenio, Rodman, Joanne and Steven Cairns, Cicero, Anthony and Marcia Sparacino, Watertown, Concetta Sparacino Monroe,
Md., Joseph and Katherine Sparacino, Black River, Margaret and Jason Fuller, Portland,
Ore., and Thomas and Julie Sparacino, Rodman; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren;
two sisters Georgena Sorbello, Canastota, and Charlotte
VanZelfde, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Anthony Joseph, predeceased her in November 2003.
The funeral service will be at the convenience of the family.
