Virginia I. Bice

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  Virginia I. Bice, 63, of Watertown and formerly of Adams, died Friday afternoon at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. She was admitted on Thursday. 

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Adams, with Rev. Walter Giles officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa. Following the burial, there will be a celebration of her life at the Dexter American Legion Post 583, beginning at 1:00 pm. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Monday, Oct. 10, at Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. 

Born Nov. 23, 1947, in Watertown, a daughter of the late Virginia and Levi Plantz and step daughter of Jeanne Lane Plantz, she graduated in June 1965 from Adams High School.
 
She graduated from Watertown School of Practical Nursing in August 1967. She worked at various Nursing Homes & Hospitals in the area. She retired from Jefferson-Lewis BOCES in 1999 after a career as a teaching assistant. 

She married Richard D. Bice in 1965. The marriage ended in divorce. 

She was a 44-year Auxiliary member and past president (1977 to 1978) of the American Legion Post 583, Dexter, and a member of the VFW Post 1400, Watertown. 

She was a Cub Scout Leader, a Charter member of the Lorraine Methodist Church Youth Group and a member of the LeRay Street Tenant Association. 

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kristi Bice, Watertown; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammi and Jayson Jones, Adams Center; five grandchildren, Kyle, Seth and Alex “Petey” Jones and Dylan and Kassidy Bice; three brothers, David LaRock, Adams; Fordie (Jane) Plantz, Watertown, and Theodore (Joanne) Plantz, Mannsville; two sisters, Flossie Minor, Virginia, and Teresa (Denny) Stinson, Adams; five step brothers, Jack (Diane) Lane, Denny (Kathy) Lane, Steve (Cheryl) Lane, Mike Lane, and Patrick Lane; a foster sister, Debbie Seymour, Watertown; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by a son, Richard D. Bice Jr., and a brother, Levi Plantz, Jr.

Donations in her memory may be made to the General Brown Central School Booster Club or the South Jefferson Central School Booster Club in honor of her grandchildren.
