John
Hongo, 91, formerly of West State Street, passed away
Thursday evening, Oct. 11, at the Lewis County Residential
Healthcare Facility.
A
private graveside service will be held at the convenience of
the family in Brantingham Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Lowville.
Born March 2, 1921, in Vintondale, Pa., a son of the late
Steve and Emma Hongo, he attended country school on the East
Road, and worked on the family farm.
He married Eleanor Cooper on Aug. 1, 1942. Together with his
wife, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on the
Ridge Road in Lowville from 1950 until the mid-1970s, at
which time the couple moved to their residence on West State
Street. Mrs. Hongo died March 9, 2004.
He
was a lifetime member of the Lowville Grange. He enjoyed
cooking, gardening, smoking meat, and puttering in the
garage.
John enjoyed spending time at camp in Brantingham, and when
he was younger, he enjoyed boxing.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda and
Tamas Takacs of Lowville; Jane Ciciarelli of Liverpool; a
sister, Emma Ewing of Lowville; a brother, Joe Hongo of
Carthage; four grandchildren, Scott Stoddard, Shanin
Stoddard, Molly Williams and Jill Carver; seven
great-grandchildren, Augusta Williams, Olivia Stoddard, Emma
Stoddard, Sam Williams, Noah Stoddard, Liam Carver and
Benjamin Carver.
A great-grandson, Brennan Stoddard, died before him.
