WATERTOWN, N.Y. —
Elmer C. Monica, 74, Northland Estates, and formerly of
Evans Mills, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 24, at his
home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Reed &
Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Kennedy officiating.
Burial will follow in North Watertown Cemetery. Calling
hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the funeral
home.
Born Nov. 21, 1936, a son of Oliver and Viola Rivers Monica,
he served with the Air Force from 1954 to 1958. Following
his honorable discharge from the military, he was employed
with General Motors in Michigan. He later served as a
uniform policeman in Holly, Michigan.
Mr. Monica returned to Watertown, going to work for the New
York Air Brake as a journeyman core maker. He worked in the
pest control industry for a time before returning to the Air
Brake, retiring in the early 1990s.
Mr. Monica was a former member of the Eagles Club. He
enjoyed fishing and camping.
Mr. Monica married Maryanne Wilson in 1990. A previous
marriage ended in divorce.
Besides his wife
Maryanne, he is survived by two sons, David of Nevada and
Jeff of Michigan; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren;
three step children, Alvin Roe, Rochester, Marion Duff,
Lexington, Ky., and Penny Luiz, Adams; nine step
grandchildren; four brothers, Howard, LaFargeville; Kenneth,
James and Carl, all of Watertown; three sisters, Evelyn
Robinson and Helen Kelsey, both of LaFargeville, and Kay
Martin, Watertown Center; several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Oliver "John", and a sister, Ann
Shirley Williams, died before him.
